What is the best templating engine to use with gulp and MODX?

Recently, I came to the conclusion that I lack the synchronization of components between the back-end and front-end. On the server, I use MODX - it has its own templating engine there on its own wave - in it all the inclusions occur through a call in the placeholder, unlike pug, where include path/to/template.pug - in short, I deployed such a smart one git, made a hub, imported modules, but when it came to includes, I felt sad ...
In general, we need a template engine that will work with gulp, and be friends with MODX Revo. Who knows what? I'm not strong in the back-end, and apart from pug and bemtree, I don't know any templating engines))) Enlighten me, please - who will synchronize the front-end with the back-end? Maybe all the same and pug is possible to make friends?

Under modx there is Fenom, Smarty and Twig but they are all PHP templating engines. They have nothing to do with Gulp.
