Firstly, Shield has books on other versions, just take the previous edition and you will be 8th.
Secondly, even if you study a book describing Java 9, you will learn what you need to know and a little bit that will not work in version 8.
And thirdly, as you already answered here. Kotlin is now more relevant for Android development, although my personal opinion is that you need to learn both languages ​​​​and start with Java.
