What is the benefit of Asterisk?

Good afternoon. Recently I have taken a great interest in telephony and it is on the Internet. I would like to know about Asterisk. For example, there is a wired telephone from Kazakhtelecom (Kazakhtani telephone and Internet provider). Now, if I raise Asterisk at home, can I receive a call on the computer that came to the phone of Kazakhtelecom. And to call me on the Internet on the same phone. Or my desire beyond the possible.
Thanks in advance

It's easier for you to take an IP phone from the Siemens Gigaset series, they have both an analog input and work with a SIP provider.

Yes, you can. You will need a board with one FXO port and preferably a white IP from the provider.

Kazakhtelecom has been providing the "iD Phone" service for several years - the distribution of fixed numbers via SIP.
It binds to Asterisk via a separate ADSL logical channel or a naked Internet.
