What is safebrowsing?

Firefox constantly sends headers to safebrowsing-cache.google.com .
I got sick of this surveillance, although firefox seems to be a good browser.

How can I block all unnecessary connections, except for the sites that I actually go to?

The browser checks to see if the requested page is a fraudulent one ( details ). You can disable it through Tools - Options - Security - Block reported web forgeries.
