What is normaliz.dll?
I downloaded cURL from the official site for XP, linked libcurl.dll and compiled the simplest example ( simple.c from the examples from their site). Runs but crashes with an error
normaliz.dll not found. What is this dll?

Typically located in Windows\System32 (Windows\SysWOW64).
The official site does not hold cURL libraries, it only provides links to other people's assemblies. cURL (or OpenSSL) uses VC2008; you obviously downloaded the NOT XP version. Nothing, VS2008 Redistributable can be downloaded here.

I specifically searched and found a cURL/OpenSSL build that doesn't require anything fancy. We are programmers, we install a bunch of software - but one beta tester did not work, because his work laptop didn't have VS2013, strayed with OpenSSL.
