What is more in demand in game development now? Pure OpenGL or good knowledge of frameworks (Unity3D, cocos2d-x)?

At work, Unity3D is actively used, I would like to study cocos2d-x.
But recently I came across Zeptolab and their test task, in which they would like to see from the developer exactly the knowledge of pure OpenGL and basic algorithms (path finding, collision calculation). Algorithms don't matter either. For the required 10-12 hours, I cannot cope with their task now.
Which direction to move on and what to focus on if game dev is chosen? Or is it already impossible in principle at the age of 25 and I can’t stand the competition with good fresh students?

More in demand frameworks (read - more often). Unity is a good choice - you can always find a job. Just look.
Knowledge of naked OpenGL will never be superfluous.
2D is easier than 3D in terms of algorithms.
Oh, where did this nonsense come from, that 25 years is considered too late?
