What is better to study for freelancing in the evenings?

Good day! I'm 30 years old and I've been playing around all day at work... It so happened that at my main job I'm free for about half of my working time and I want to start learning something new, plus earn at least 100 dollars from it. I started to learn Java, then Android, I wrote a couple of programs for the market, but I didn’t get mountains of money. I tried to look for freelance orders - everywhere there are ecomers, frameworks, and so on. I don't even know in what direction to move on... How can I gain experience in development via the Internet? I studied my main specialty (network engineer) somehow smoothly in the process of work, learned a lot from colleagues, googled a lot when solving tasks, but here I don’t know where to go at all. Maybe I made a mistake with the choice of the direction of freelancing and is it better to start studying something else now?

I would start by monitoring exchanges for orders. But not to perform, but to study. See those where you know how to do something or imagine how to do it. Learn what you need and do for yourself.
So you will gain the necessary skills.

Experience, experience, experience...
What to monitor on freelancing: demand, your capabilities, popular destinations/areas and competition in them, the average price tag for work for each of them.

How can you gain experience in web development?
Set goals for yourself and complete them.
Look for the development of interesting UNORDINARY! (not a copy of the functionality of the website!) projects for Android and you will enjoy the development, and new personal progress / experience, and money.
Most importantly: Your current experience (albeit tiny) is needed now, so I advise you not to give up this direction and continue to develop further.

At the age of 25, I had such a job, where I also beat the buckets for about half of the working day. It's not because I was so fond of shirking work, but because I worked in the QA department of an electronics factory. Therefore, having loaded the next batch of devices into the test stand, I was free for 40 minutes - the testing went on automatically. Therefore, at that time I was engaged in writing an online store - in 2004 there was no such dominance of ready-made scripts as now - Magento, OpenCart, etc. This gave me a truly invaluable experience and a well-paid job now.
Now in the same situation, I would start learning AngularJS.

Write a parser for some exchange.
Sort the frameworks by frequency of mention.
Parse again in a month. You do the same.
Weed out those that are gaining popularity, but not yet in the top 5. Teach them.

We wrote about Geekbrains above.
Never! There, for hours, the muzzle tells some things to the camera, correcting the code on the go, thinking for a long time, etc.
These are the dreams of many Russian online courses - in fact, recordings from webinars.
Take courses from Linda. There, the authors prepare the video in advance - everything is clear, according to the prepared script. No tightness. All in all, a decent video.
In general, courses are better than books at the initial stage - because everything is in order, on the shelves.
If you don’t know English, look for translations of courses in pools and torrents - there are a lot of them for basic technologies.

In technical terms, I advise you to use your existing skills and aim for freelance jobs related to networks - remotely, this can be either network programming or remote network administration.
In general, I advise you to devote time to English. This is an important skill that will expand the scope of the search for orders to foreign clientele. The better you speak and write English, the easier it will be to focus on the essence of the task, and not on the complexities of communication.
Also study issues related to work communication - how to communicate with a client correctly, how to coordinate work, how to keep records of the work done during the day, how the work process is usually arranged - setting a task, agreeing on details, estimating the amount of work, distributing your time, etc. .
Try to take orders. At first, look for something that you understand and suits your skills, without focusing too much on financial gain. On these first projects, you will get your hand at work, understand your weaknesses, and be able to draw up a self-study plan.

In order to make money, you need to develop sales skills.
You already have some abilities and skills - try to sell them in the evenings.
To do this, you can learn the basics of marketing and / or Internet marketing and direct sales.

I can recommend online courses at geekbrains.ru. In six months, you can thoroughly study this or that technology / language and earn > 100 dollars. Well, in which direction to actually move - it's up to you. Analyze orders on stock exchanges, think about which area you are more interested in and go ahead.
As for experience, IMHO, you can look at free courses for projects such as a blog, todo-lists and other things, write your own analogues, while writing them some more ideas will come to your head and so you will have a solid portfolio. And then freelancing.

I would advise staying on the mobile platform. I myself am now making mobile applications, and orders rarely come. Plus, they are constantly called to work with knowledge of the Android SDK, Java, C ++, etc.
Another option is to learn English and work on their exchanges, such as UpWork.

I don’t know about freelance exchanges, but in real life there are also many tasks and clients. I am a networker, I work with Mikrotik. I have a blog with low traffic and periodically advertise myself on my own VK and FB pages. There are always clients. They ask to segment the network, set up VPN, routing, some scripts.
So in your case, I would advise you to delve into the network and promote yourself.
