What is better to study as a backend?

I am a Front-End developer, I need a server part for my small project.
What is the best platform to choose?

Python, Java, NodeJS - the rest is just for pampering.

As usual, I would recommend Google App Engine and Go.

If the project is small - PHP - entry threshold is lower.
If the project is larger and needs to be supported, then I would choose between RoR, Python.
If the project is large and highload, I would choose NodeJS.

For a front-end developer, Node.js seems to be, because the programming language should already be familiar.
