What is better to choose OpenVZ or KVM for a site (standard php mysql project)?
There is a standard php+mysql project without any exotics.
Works on the simplest tariff. And, with development, ran into resources. Mostly in memory.
We need a stronger server.
(Optimization of the project, requests, a separate conversation.)
Do not take it for advertising, but once again scrolling through lowendstock, I found an optimizedvps company (dot com)
with such tariffs
. Servers in the USA (or maybe it's better to watch in Europe?).
openvz
$14.99/YEAR
2 GB Memory
2 Core Intel® Processor
10 GB RAID 10 SSD Storage
2 TB Premium Bandwidth
kvm
$19.99/YEAR
1 GB Memory
2 Core Intel® Processor
10 GB RAID 10 SSD Storage
2 TB Premium Bandwidth
We see that kvm is more expensive, and even fewer resources. Yes - these are two different types of virtualization.
There are many articles about virtualization types and their features.
I don't need Windows, FreeBSD - Linux will do. That is, openvz is suitable.
But openvz has soft limits, server performance may deviate, although memory is given not 1GB, but 2 GB, and my project likes to eat it.
Kvm has hard limits - it's good, but 1GB of memory ...
I don't have exotics - openvz is suitable.
So what is better to choose OpenVZ or KVM for a site (standard php mysql project)?

OpenVZ is not full virtualization. You share the core with others who are currently working. It is not possible to update it. Installing something that interacts with the kernel (ipset for example) is impossible. As I was told in one support - OpenVZ is only for data storage (and still I did not understand - how can I protect a server, even if it is only for data storage ...)
