What is a convenient program for viewing server logs?

There are server logs in .txt format, it is difficult to view them, due to the large volume.
Need a program for easy viewing of log-files with the following functionality:
- search;
- selection by date ranges.

What kind of logs (from what software)? How many of them (in megabytes / day)?
I would suggest trying splunk .
At first glance, it may seem that this is overkill for such a task, but still it is a very convenient software for analyzing logs, and all kinds.
