Mainly in the corporate sector.
For example, the Bank of Russia, Lukoil, Letual use a corporate portal based on SharePoint.
The Interfax company has its own portal based on net mvc and a bunch of service software based on NET.
Another direction is mobile development, see XAMARIN. But here it is still closer to a corporate party, a single code base with existing systems.
A separate thing is the net core. Very organically, you can run everything on Unix, MacOS, Windows. The only negative is the relatively poor work with graphics.

writes programs in C#, VB.NET or F#, or several of these languages. there are exotics like ironPython or PHP.NET, but this is rare. there is even Lisp and Prolog. this is usually as an extension to the mainstream listed above.
on dotnet, you can also create full-fledged desktop software. and, backend to mobile or web. You can create games, especially in Unity. there is a whole infrastructure for embedded devices and robotics
as dotnrt core develops, dotnet backing will become even more cross-platform
and that's probably not all

Writes programs in C#, VB.NET, less often F#, using the .NET Framework. Moreover, these are both programs for a PC (Desktop Application), and Web services, sites using ASP.NET, and much more. It doesn't really matter what programs he develops, the main thing that he uses the .NET Framework in his developments is to consider that the class libraries that are already in Windows.
