What does a beginner tester need to know?

Hello everybody!
I am writing from the glorious city of St. Petersburg. There was a great desire to go to work in IT in the direction of testing.
I read Savin, I'm reading the SQL tutorial, the HTML and CSS tutorial. I'm friends with a PC under Windows, a little familiar with Linux.
Tell me what else you can read, or maybe there are some additional ones. courses where you can go-practice?
Internships, courses, useful literature are interesting. I will be glad to any response!

There are several options for your further development:
1. If you are ready to "train on cats", feel free to go (or rather, sign up) for Software Testing courses (they also have a useful forum). There are different options, they will give you the basics and it will be a solid base for a small price (just don't take the crash course, better take a simple basic one). Before that, you can refuel with Savin's online course and the course from Mail.ru (we wrote about him above). There is also a free introductory course on Udacity.
2. Go on an internship / training at a large IT company (this is how I studied myself). These trainings are provided by Epam, ITransition, Veeam and others. Search the headhunter for "QA/Tester/Test Specialist", then select "no experience". In St. Petersburg, it seems, there are several open positions. Requires knowledge of logic and a basic understanding of SQL. In some places - OOP (it already depends on the company and the direction). If it is indicated that they are looking for graduates, and you have not been a graduate for a long time, write anyway: motivation is valued in the first place.
Something that is very difficult to understand without experience, but it can be assumed by knowing yourself and your abilities: decide what kind of testing you want to do.
- Web applications, sites, etc.? Keep cramming Html/CSS/SQL, try it out. Without this knowledge, getting into a junior position is difficult - the competition is high.
- Functional - the same SQL, administration (learn queries in the command line), language (better Python or Java).
- Plus, ask yourself what area you want to work in. If you are a game tester, it will be easier: it is easier to get into the position of a junior, but you need a lot of gaming experience. In addition, there is mobile testing, testing of graphic content and art, etc. Think about what you are good at.
The main thing, as colleagues noted, is interest, utmost attentiveness, the ability to learn very quickly and be flexible. Do not be afraid of stressful situations. Oh yes. And knowledge of English (at least) at the level of reading specifications, and better - at the level of writing reports and bug reports.
Think about your resume and cover letter - in 80% they are the ones who decide whether to call you or not.
Good luck)

@Madmath

1) The course from mail.ru on the YouTube channel "Technostrim".
2) Ron Patton "Software testing".
3) L. Copeland "Practitioner's Guide to software test design".
4) Optional - istqb materials, but, in my opinion, it is better to read them when there is already some work experience.
What happens next depends on what you are doing. You have to orient yourself. Or ask more specifically.

Need to know (for a functional tester):
1. Testing theory.
What is testing.
What is a bug.
Types of testing.
The structure of the test case.
The structure of the test plan.
What is test design.
Equivalence classes.
2. Basics of development.
Software life cycle.
Place of testing in development.
Basic concepts of PL - functions, methods, data types.
3. Bases of databases.
Ability to write simple SQL queries
Relational database definitions
Normalization.
4. Bug-trackers
TFS, Jira, Jazz, ALM, etc.
It would also be nice to have basic knowledge of XML.
They may be asked to test a pen, pencil, calculator.
It would be nice to understand what ISTQB is, the readiness to get a certificate

First of all, get a job.
It is easier and more efficient to work and grow than to study and try to get a high position right away.
Next, decide what you want to do.
Or manual testing and further into analytics. Then study the product, area, pump communication. From tech. knowledge to you a maximum of SQL is useful. Well, knowledge of how web applications work.
Or test automation. Then learn programming. Instruments. Technology. A lot of them.
In any case, the base is the same. Read anywhere about basic test design techniques and types of testing. For example on istqb
You can read these 2 books. (but they are no longer for beginners)

IMHO, before being a good tester, you need to be a good developer, programmer, know all the system and principles from the inside. well, and then already pumped in testing.

The main quality that is expected from a novice tester is self-learning and the ability to search for information yourself.
Your task: to get the task - to solve the task. If problems arise in the process of solving, solve them as much as possible independently (find a solution).
So before asking such questions - it is better to google.
Examples of answers from me:
What should a tester jun read besides testing books?
QA engineer, where to start?
From other authors, too, there are enough answers to this question.
I can't agree with the adviser above, very ... VERY strange selection, especially the rather dubious courses from the mail and item 4, which is not needed at all if you are not going to take the certification. Because water and transfusion from empty to empty.

It's just boring to read unless you're looking for something specific.
First, break or hack something
