What documents other than a passport can Russian citizens have and what are the rules for validating document fields?

What are the validation rules for passport data fields? Field length, valid characters, dates of birth and date of issue. There is a Wikipedia
for a passport , but the concept of "symbols" is vague. Russian, English, hyphen? Any more? Some citizens may not have a passport. For example, a sailor's passport may be valid instead. What other documents are considered valid, what fields are in these documents, what are the rules for validating fields?
