What do you use SQUID for on your home network?

I'm trying to understand, do I need it?
You can make all sorts of delicious acl, but there are adblocks and others. You can ban sites with handbags, but okay, let the wife have fun.
PS what RAM do you need squid for 2-5 devices

No need. All everyday home problems can be solved by ACL/iptables. Proxy is needed:
Cons - hemorrhoids with the setting, you can mess something up, they will be able to attach to it from the local area, it is not convenient to install a proxy on all client devices (tablet, phone, some kind of navigator), most likely they will go straight.
Well, unless of course you really want to keep track of who is at home on which sites and when they climbed ...

nafig is not needed, it used to be possible to cache everything to save traffic, but now.
