What do you need to work with sound at home?

Greetings. There is an intention to work with sound. So far I've used a Suzuki smd138 microphone and audacity on linux. The sound card is built-in. The result came out with some background noise. After processing, the mp3 output is of reasonable quality: soundcloud.com/eucariot/v-nedrakh-tundry.
Now I'm on the verge of recording podcasts with a lot of questions about how to do it. Advise what is needed, how to choose a mixing console, if necessary? What kind of external sound card do you need? In the early stages, everything should be extremely budgetary.

What is most important: cover yourself with a sheet, or a blanket, so that there is no echo from the walls, ceiling and floor. Here is the cheapest option for you. Then record at least on the built-in microphone, it will already be many times better.

To get started, buy a decent sound box. For example, Infrasonic Quartet (in Linux it works with a bang - I personally checked it).
And then - it already depends on what budget you have and how seriously you want to approach the matter.

I use a Shur 58 microphone, a Behringer remote control for 1 microphone input, a built-in sound card in the Asus motherboard. However, I write under win7; I work at home and there is no reverberation, everything is very good. I noticed that with such microphones as shur58 it can be difficult to adapt to the signal level: I turned my head a little and the signal became weaker, I began to speak more animatedly, emotionally and loudly - there is an overload right there. My microphone is on a microphone stand (crane), the stand is on the side so as not to interfere.
Laptop ... Most likely, you need to look in the direction of USB-zvukovuh. If you have the opportunity to borrow a remote control from your friends for a couple of days - try it, you will be pleasantly surprised by the quality.

In winter, I bought myself an external usb-card E-MU 0204, in my opinion, it's budget. Haven't tried it under linux.

Sound cards are a very slippery moment - even on MBox pro I did not find a DSP datasheet, and this is the key point of any audio interface.
IMHO, the mixing console is needed on the rep, and not in the home studio, implying that there is poor sound insulation at home, and so on. don't play loud.
