on the switch: an Internet cable to one vlan, client computers to another, a port with a laptop to the trunk. on a laptop, configure 2 vlans and route in any convenient way (but it’s better not with Windows, at least in a *nix or bsd virtual machine)

What makes you think that the Catalyst C3560X-24P is not able to route vlan? Routing is enabled with the ip routing command. What license is installed on the switch?
