What can be useful to learn about e-commerce?

The problem is this. I'm doing a master's degree. I decided to make just an online store in Java (Spring). The practical part, as it were, is clear - to do everything. But this is a theoretical problem. What theoretical and analytical things can be written about in this area? Maybe there is something related to the possible approaches to carry out the analysis.
In general, I am looking for a theoretical ecommerce background.
What I already came up with to write in the diploma:
- the difference between a monolith and microservices
- about different technologies for development (languages, frameworks, etc.) - about business models (b2b, b2c
, etc.)
write about what is html, http, rest api and other stuff for volume :D

I was advised such topics as 1. How sales statistics are collected 2. How the seasonality of goods is calculated.
But I don’t understand this, I didn’t find anything suitable in Google.

I will add that I have no commercial development experience, which is why I can’t think of something interesting with a click of a finger that could be ala “research” for a multi-page story about how cool electronic systems can be developed.
Maybe there is even some interesting data about Java itself or Spring in the ecommerce field, which could be written about on the topic of development.

Well, this is probably, if we analyze previous years :) And if there were none?

If they weren't, there are competitors. There is a "niche test". There are trendy seasonal items. There is a theory of probability. There is logic. There are basic needs of people/genders. There is a cycle of fashion. There are analytics databases. There are requests from people from search engines ( Wordstat for example). There is data from bigdata from advertising companies.
