And I would recommend to start at least with the area of ​​​​knowledge to decide. Say, why the hell should a person who plans to process images study algorithms for lexical analysis of texts?
By the way, I consider "C snippets" the most sane book on algorithms: in addition to pieces of ready-made code, it contains detailed descriptions of effective (and also not very effective) algorithms of various directions.
Knut, in my opinion, has only one Real Book, which must be learned by heart: "All about TeX".
