What books should I read on the basics of databases, SQL and DBMS?

Offer good literature on the basics of databases, SQL and DBMS for the uninformed. I have some experience with mysql/sqlite in php, but I want to go into details. If possible, describe the bibliography from the basics to more advanced material (eg, optimization/design/patterns). Thank you.

Mandatory Martin Greiber "Understanding SQL" and A.D. Homonenko, V.M. Tsygankov, M.G. Maltsev "Databases. A textbook for universities" (in this book there is only a section on database design). Both books are easy to find online.
