What area to choose for freelancing?

Good afternoon. My question may seem silly or banal, but I am faced with a difficult choice.
The fact is that around the summer I began to study Java, a little later, in the fall, I entered the 1st year of the university, moved to another city (Moscow time) and rented an apartment on my own savings.
I planned to reach at least some level of knowledge and start earning money, for example, by freelancing, but for some reason before that I didn’t google and didn’t specify how things are with freelancing in Java.
As I understand it, if the conversation is about Java EE, then there are very few freelance tasks in this area, which is understandable, and the option to “bring up knowledge and go to work as a junior” is hardly possible for a first-year student, because I simply simply cannot be at work.
And now I, rather, ask for advice on how I should proceed. I heard that things are better with android, but I'm not sure about it. The second way for me is probably to go into web development (PHP / JavaScript), but again, I need someone with experience to tell me how best to be in this case.

You understood everything correctly, you can’t freelance in Java (except for android).
Moreover, you even chose two alternatives, which I would recommend.
You can also consider Ruby on Rails (but only if you freelance in the West, in Russia it is absolutely not popular), it now has the lowest level of entry to the junior level due to the lack of technology segmentation.

web development (js css html + node.js) - it's much easier than everything else,
you can make websites and mobile applications cross-platform
