What are the resources on the Internet for amateurs (namely amateurs) to program?

Programming is just a hobby for me, but I would like to somehow “see people and show myself”. Where is such communication on the web?

Take part in some kind of network programming competitions, it’s very funny and interesting when you studied at the university and forced the whole room to participate.
