What are the methods to speed up the Google Maps API v3?

There is an application with a large number of elements on the map. The browser starts to slow down and it becomes problematic to move around the map. I tried to delete all elements when moving the map and load those that fall into the visible area. But this method does not suit, since the elements blink when you delete some, and add others. What methods can you recommend?
