Personally, I would advise you to start learning C++. It is good because it is similar to Java and functional, and it is similar to other languages in many ways. There are absolutely superfluous things there, like operator overloading, there are problems with memory. It sometimes pisses me off, but it's forgivable. I studied java in general from the darkraha reference book and not very long ago. But I do not advise you, because if you do not know other similar languages, then you will not understand anything.
