I started my programming journey with Koterov's book "PHP5 in the original". It was a distant 2006 or 2007. A very good presentation of information for a person who has no idea what http / cgi is, how the compiler differs from the interpreter, etc.
But 2018 is already coming, and naturally a lot of new information has come out. I recommend PHP: The Right Way as a starting point .
