What are javascript preprocessors?

I know that css has preprocessors. Is there something similar in js. For example, without curly braces, etc. Does it make sense to use them? Heard something about uberscript, coffeescript. But the last one seems to have hit. What can you advise?

coffeescript may be outdated, but the last release was just a year ago. and if you are satisfied with its syntax and goodies, you can and should use it safely.
and it's not about obsolescence, but about popularity (he shot thanks to the rail-hype, which fell).
another thing - the zhs himself has grown during this time.

Here! Found a link to a whole list of javascript preprocessors. It also mentions uber-, Coffee- and toffeescript, and links are given. https://github.com/jashkenas/coffeescript/wiki/Lis... Looks extremely unusual.
