Webp with browser support?

How to make webp support? If the client has browser support for the webp format, then the .jpg images are replaced with .webp. One page site.
If I understand correctly, this can be done through .htaccess, the site itself is an index.html file.

Probably something like this:

RewriteCond %{HTTP_ACCEPT} \bimage/webp\b
RewriteRule ^(.*)\.jpg $1.webp [R]
