VPN to save traffic?

Bottom line: I have limited internet (3 GB per month) on a laptop and a server from Selectel.
Question: is it possible to make a server-based VPN to compress data on the server to save traffic or not?

In general, VPN allows you to compress traffic, but given the small overhead of packets for servicing the VPN itself, you are unlikely to get strong savings, but try it, OpenVPN seems to me the easiest way to set it up.
