View vs materialized view and is it worth it with frequent data updates?

Should I use View or materialized view when the data is constantly changing and if so, which view is better?
For example, there is a chat.
And I want to know how many letters the user wrote. Users write letters constantly and many, many users.

Is it worth using view ? After all it on idea leads to recalculation of all I twist each time for table? Or view is somehow cunningly recalculated. Or will such views make a big load on the base?
