Using DataPoint or Series of Chart component to render charts [C#]?

A system is being developed to account for the balance of the liquid (oil industry). A simple program that receives a collection of data from an OPC server in real time. Working with data impl. using MS SQL Server, and one of the main tasks of the program is to visualize the input data stream using the already existing Chart component. Before that, I didn’t work with him, having figured out a little, the question arose of how to implement the output of the graph series. Either create a Series with one single DataPoint, or One Series with the required number of DataPoints, how to properly organize the plotting?

What type of chart? Just a dotted line? If yes, then I would make one data series with the required number of points.
