Ubuntu14-04 obscure glitch?

I'm trying to shut down the system. I do the "shutdown now" command from the root, while the PC does not turn off, it goes into the root account and continues to work. After that, it is no longer possible to connect to it via ssh, but there are pings. Has anyone experienced this?

shutdown stops. Use poweroff.
