Ubuntu. Why are npm-downloaded packages not being edited?

Due to certain problems, I had to switch to ubuntu, which I am still trying to figure out. One of the main problems is this: when installing packages via npm (they) then it is not possible to edit them through (at least in my case) visual studio code. You have to go through the terminal and give them editing rights so that you can do any manipulations. How to solve the problem in order to install dependencies from the very beginning and edit them if necessary without manipulation through the terminal?
