Ubuntu Live USB - Software Update - Will it persist or not?

Good day to all
There is Ubuntu Live USB
Without persistence
But Java needs to be updated
Question - where will the update be saved, and will it be updated at all ?!
Poidee should everything be saved in the RAM?
And will the system crash when the USB is turned off, the java update has erased which thread files?
And a related question - if suddenly there is no point in updating java, because nothing will be saved - is it then possible to somehow change the default OS settings without persistence and then save them?
