Ubuntu gnome won't run file without extension?

Unable to run files without format/extension. I run it as an app and nothing happens.
ps The tick is worth it.

Some applications will not open by double-clicking from the file manager, depending on the circumstances.
Sometimes the application will run, but it's a console application, so you just don't see any console output while the applications are running.
In general, it's better to open a terminal in the correct directory (or just open a terminal and navigate to the correct directory) and run a command from there, like so:

cd /home/user/firefox
./firefox
