Troubleshooting ubuntu 12.04 boot errors

When booting the ubuntu 12.04 LTS operating system, various error messages appear.

Where can I find logs with these messages? Please advise an effective strategy for diagnosing and fixing problems in linux.

Thank you!

The boot log is stored in /var/log/boot.log. It's also worth checking the syslog entries. Unfortunately, I can't recommend any strategy other than "look at the logs for errors" > "localize the error" > find a solution ))

there can be no common strategy. Different servers and daemons store logs in different files. For example, x-server stores in the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log, and the previous log in /var/log/Xorg.0.old.log. On the one hand, this is good: if a service fails, you do not need to shovel tons of unnecessary information. On the other hand, it is impossible to control all the data at the same time. Although I have never come across such a situation.

You can look at the output of dmesg and determine the problem (service or hardware) more specifically by errors. Then look in the logs of this particular service
