Transmission daemon Error: permission denied, how to fix?

When I start downloading a new torrent, I immediately get this error:

I think it's a permissions problem, how to fix

You have strange rights "42777"
or recursively, like this
Instead of user, substitute your login in the system.

Perhaps you just need to add the debian-transmission user to the right group.
Let's say that the torrent folder has its own owner: pupkin from the pupkin group. It worked like this:
usermode -g pupkin debian-transmision
