There is an android backup: how to pull out SMS messages without expanding the backup?

Hello.
I have Xiaomi Redmi 2td phone. There was a firmware from miui.su.
I decided to update the firmware.
I made a backup first.
In the process of updating the firmware, I updated TWRP to version 3.0.
Installed Cyanogenmod unofficial.
Everything works great and faster.
But it took to get to the old SMS messages.
I tried to make a backup of the current system, format cyanogenmod and deploy the old backup.
And here's the failure - the backup does not unfold, perhaps because of the new TWRP, which does not understand where to deploy the backup, and does not provide options for selection. (At the same time, deploying a new backup provides options for this and the new backup was successfully deployed).
I don’t want to play with the phone, because the phone is needed for work in working condition and long disconnections for tests are critical.
Please advise how to get old SMS from the backup?
I can reboot and try to install the old backup again, but it is advisable to turn off the phone for a while.
Thank you.
