The potential of a layout designer?

spoiler

So this is the question: a man is a layout designer, there is a lot of experience, experience too. Engaged in layout of all kinds of labels, etc. (I don't know what this type of layout is called). What is the potential? Is a layout designer in demand in 2019, or am I a fool and no one really needs him now?
Thanks in advance.

No, not in demand. The profession is dying. The market is shrinking.
Almost no one needs the paper press, newspapers and magazines are closed en masse.
The label remains. Most of these vacancies are ~ 40k and a place of work in a printing house, next to printing machines (with their dust, rumble).
I would advise your father to gradually begin to retrain.
He himself worked in the printing industry from 1994 to 2017. The last place of work was a layout designer. I mastered a new specialty - frontend (too late, alas).

Absolutely right, no one needs a layout designer in 2019.
The world is changing rapidly, old professions are disappearing, new ones are appearing - so many interesting and complex things have appeared. I think if your Father stops calling himself a typesetter, and starts calling himself a Designer, then no one will notice the catch (especially considering the experience and portfolio) and the potential will not become a thing of the past along with the old-fashioned "typesetter"

Yes, you need a good layout designer in any project.
Another thing is that in small projects, this is usually done by some kind of programmer combined - you just need to look for a large office
. Or is this not about web layout?))

Layout is always in demand, because advertising rules)) Your father is probably 45-50 years old already? Steaming at this age is already superfluous, it will take more time to change the stack, and where will he go? In printing or web, pah-pah in both cases. And with an experience of 15+ years, he will be able to find a job (if he doesn’t like the current office). But that's all, of course, IMHO.
