The laptop touchpad buttons stopped working, the touchpad itself is working properly, what could be the problem?

5a8cabb0df412423557076.jpegThe laptop is not mine, got as useless from the owners, ASUS A52J. The buttons on the touchpad are located directly on the laptop motherboard itself. When I got it in my hands, windows 7 was installed on it (I won’t name the bit depth, the edition too), reinstalled 10 on it, the buttons stopped working completely. Installed drivers - did not work. GO FURTHER! I installed windows 7, but the drivers for it did not work! The previous owner says that the buttons worked properly, no hint of dying. Is it possible to somehow check the operability of the clock button in another way? (they are also called mikriks)

Apparently someone took it apart and forgot to connect the button cable?
Chances are slim to break both suddenly.

Thank you all for your help in solving this problem, it turned out that the reason is mechanical. After an hour of poking at the buttons, the left one began to work every other time, the right one refused completely. It's up to the soldering iron and the electronic parts store, but anyway, I'll try all these recommendations now.
