The developer of special software for machine tools has closed, what should I do?

Automated, conveyor, robotic production requires serious modernization, and the manufacturer and supplier of software and hardware has closed, but is ready to sell the source code. How to audit them, evaluate them and is it worth buying? Or write your own from scratch?

I think you really need to ask to see the source. Even on their computer.
Take a look with a language and machine tool expert to see if it's worth the source code or bullshit.
You cannot steal the code by looking at it. You can understand whether you need it or not. Estimate a few you will be able to work with this code.

You will still need to upgrade the software. Look for an experienced programmer and under his liability (contract) buy or don't buy. Why did they close?
