The choice of ultrabook\transformer to work under linux?
Good day.
Need advice on choosing iron for work. You need an ultrabook with a swivel screen (with a tablet mode) or, in fact, a tablet with a keyboard + touchpad docking station. It is the form factor of the tablet that matters. It needs Linux. And the budget is up to 1-1.2k $ =\
I take it for light tasks: remote access via ssh, mail, jabber\skype, creating\editing\reading something, video on the road, /etc…
Must have: 3g, >8 hours work, weight up to 1.6 kg, it is desirable to invest in the budget up to $ 1000 hard-earned ... and the aesthetic pleasure of contemplation (not a fan of Apple, but sometimes it becomes bad from the sight of Chinese freaks)
And now the problematic side of the issue:
I want to take modern iron, but its choice presented like this:
1) tablets on Intel Atom Z2760 or similar from amd:
for example, Acer iconia tab w511 or a bunch of analogues.
CONS:
Not only is the cost too high, but also x32 cpu, sharpened for windows 8 with UEFI and security boot -> on the ubunta download page it is clearly written that x32 grub does not work with uefi, use x64; they say there are problems with the integrated graphics of these chips in linux.
A chip that was not originally designed for linux (although it is an ibm pc compatible x32, so it even sounds strange), there is a very small chance that linux will get up (I read about the successful installation of ubuntu and suse on a similar tablet from asus, on an acer w5 * for sure yet no one has been able to install it.
2) i3-i5 tablet, for example, Acer Iconia Tab W700
CONS:
Overpriced, terrible equipment.
Also windows 8 with UEFI and security boot.
3) ultrabooks based on i3-i5
CONS: Overpriced
, the reasonableness of configurations is questionable for most models, basically, short operating time <= 7 hours.
So far, I've stopped looking at the Lenovo ThinkPad Twist S230u , but I'm confused by the weight of 1.6 kg, the operating time < 7, it's a bit thick. Also iron under win 8 and ordeal with the installation of the penguin.
I have been suffering for 3 weeks already: it is optimal to wait a few months / years (underline as necessary), but you need to work / study / study right now.
I live in Minsk, so the opportunity to take it in the store to try and then return is almost non-existent, in fact.
If anyone has made a similar choice, please let me know.
ps: I'm afraid to take Chinese iron because of the loud cry of the inner paranoid, but for lack of money for normal things, I'm ready to consider such options.

Those tablets / laptops that were sold with Windows often do not have native firewood for linux, which leads to poor os performance and fast discharge.
I now have a Lenovo X230 on which Ubuntu is installed - everything started out of the box and works fine. But the swivel screen is very much missing, so I plan to switch to the following models:
Lenovo X230 Tablet - the same but with a swivel screen.
Pros: the screen rotates, there is a pen, a matte screen, a normal keyboard and a touchpad with buttons.
Minutes: the screen does not come unfastened, so quite a lot of weight, seemingly unreliable fastening of the screen to the
Lenovo Yoga body - the same thing but with a rotating screen.
Pros: Screen swivel, thinner and lighter, stronger chassis
Minutes: Poor touchpad, no backlit
IdeaPad S10-3t keyboard
Pros: Light weight
Minutes: glossy screen, wretched touchpad and keyboard
From other manufacturers, so far nothing has been picked up. There is Samsung ATIV, it seems to be nothing - but there the screen outweighs the keyboard and there is no additional battery in the dock, unlike the Asus transformer, plus the screen cannot be opened 180 degrees, it opens 110 degrees from the force - very inconvenient.
Asus transformer seems to be nothing, but it is not clear whether Linux will work there.
Therefore, I am also sitting, watching, waiting for successful models ...
Acquired DNS Air Tab P72g. Plans for the sea, one thinker, so I'm trampling around for now. The filling of the Dual-Core Procic says that you need to move towards Linux, and not away from it. Android-4.1.1 JB. Kernel version -3.0.8+ [email protected] #23. 4G, wifi .......
I decided for myself unambiguously, I want a track axis on a tablet, or maybe two, in a compartment with Andryusha.
In general, I will continue to study. Ready to test the program on your hardware, write.
