The best free mobile framework for recognizing Bar-, QR-codes?

I tried the best one - Scandit, but it is commercial and the price tag is such that I won't take it out.

What can you recommend for a mobile application that is not worse than Scandit?

I took a shitty android smartphone, the Scandit demo application from the camera recognizes QR, barcodes. The first frameworks that came across are free, which I tried - they don’t read the same codes at all.

Have you tried Firebase ? It seems to have a fairly good recognition accuracy
