In android, backup of contacts is carried out on the Google server. Is this not enough for you? We are looking for Handy Backup in the market, it backups to a USB flash drive, then transfers it to the computer in the standard way. As already mentioned, android is synchronized with Google servers. And Evolution can perfectly connect contacts from a Google account out of the box (in 10.04 and 10.10 for sure). Works great. My winmob phones are synchronized this way.
