Storage, server, DAS, Why?

The question is stupid. The storage system has 2 sas ports per controller, in/out. each controller is connected via IN to the server, to hba. WHY in this topology so connect storage systems? For what purposes is it necessary? I understand that there are host ports that go towards switches to organize factories / redundancy. Connoisseurs please do not be angry.

Do you have one HBA with two ports? In any case, this reserves a port/cable level failure on any of the links.
