Spring MVC and Spring security configuration via Java config or xml?

Which configuration approach is best to move towards?! I'm more interested in how the configuration is used in fresh projects, I understand that someone is more used to this or that, but now it's quite noticeable how the above technologies get rid of xml.

You definitely need to go towards Spring Boot , which, in turn, does not use XML configuration.
