So how do you learn Java anyway?

Recently, I (a student) got very interested in the topic of sports programming. I chose Java to learn, but immediately ran into problems. The point is that most of the literature (like Java Philosophy) seems to be out of date. Some textbooks (Schildt et al.) often become the subject of all sorts of remarks about their inconsistency as textbooks for beginners. At the same time, I could not understand the documentation of the language (I found something about Java SE8, but not about the current version). I often find that the language needs to be mastered in practice, but for this I need to at least cover the main aspects in Java programming and syntax. As you understand, I am a complete zero in this. I also don't know what order to learn the language in, so I trust you and the resources you suggested for that. I have 6-9 months at my disposal. I feel completely confused and therefore I will be grateful if you can guide me on the right path, specifically describing what is behind what. I will formulate the final questions:
How to effectively learn the Java language and programming in general? What are the best resources for this? Is there a specific plan to study?

@LittleBob

This is my personal method, I think it is effective.
Like you said, practice is the most important thing. Just find yourself a task or goal to do something and do it.
At first, you will just copy the code, then you will have to solve problems that will not be on the Internet. Only experience and a lot of practice, books for the most part are show-offs. All the information you need is Indian tutorials, forums and documentation.
By increasing the difficulty of the tasks, you will increase your skill and level.
