Should You Use WordPress in 2020?

My first exposure to wordpress was about 10 years ago. It was a blogging engine before there were hundreds of plugins and thousands of themes. Now I see many media, successful and busy projects use WordPress. And what has changed with the hood during this time? Or everything remained at the same level, but the community has grown, which, through tears, makes websites. Or maybe now WordPress is the perfect tool?
I have a certain amount of content that I want to turn into a website. About 9k pages. We need additional fields for records and selection of articles on these fields. There is a choice between wordpress and ocrober cms. And somewhere I understand that I use Wordress, everything will be fast, there will be an artist and the necessary plugins, additional plugins, but there are still doubts.

I join the FreeAero recommendation in favor of October CMS. The positioning platform itself is universal, just look at its clean installation. But the main types of sites under which it is positioned by the authors themselves are blogs and shops . This becomes obvious when you look at the highlighted categories in the marketplace.

I also want to add that October can be used for an article site in flat-file mode, i.e. without a database, which will add speed to it. Only sites built on static generators like 11ty will work faster . If you think of this option, then it is 11ty that is one of the most progressive today (developed by the famous and authoritative front-end developer from the USA Zack Leatherman).
By the way, here is an example of an article site for October with millions of pages - jurist.by .
All the advice from the opera "take what you know well" has a sound grain. However, it is important to understand that WP is an obsolete engine that carries tons of unsafe legacy under the hood. You can certainly overclock and patch it with proper experience. But, if it is not there, then why, in principle, correct the "birth injuries" of the engine. Take what is easy to learn, what modern DX provides, and what is safe enough. October is a good choice, but the qualifications of the developer should be higher than in the case of WP.

Your choice between OctoberCMS and WP is only due to the fact that you are not familiar with OctoberCMS - then the choice would fall in favor of the second without any doubt.
OctoberCMS is built with modern patterns, it is lightweight and flexible. There is an active Russian community - which helps and supports.
The marketplace contains the necessary plugins - which are installed in a couple of clicks, for example, a blog or users or, for example , an online store
The concept of the ecosystem is very well thought out in OctoberCMS, it is easy to expand the engine, either someone else's plugin, or the admin panel, there are courses to start , there are streams, there is good documentation.
From experience - it was a pleasure to study the otkober, now I make projects on it quickly and without torment, if you have any questions - I'm ready to answer in the comments

If you know how to cook it, then use it. As a rule, WP sites collected by the mouse are a real trash. It will blunt, slow down, etc.

WP, of course, has changed, and as correctly noted above - if you know how to cook, then it's very ok. In terms of work, wp is up-to-date, there are companies that require knowledge of wp, there are many freelance orders, and it’s much easier to make a website with knowledge of wp for yourself. Since version 4.? (forgotten) there is a REST API that is fast enough and easy to use and extend, so it's worth looking into. At the same time, it is worth understanding that a tool and a product are different things, if the product came out great, then what's the difference, which tool? What to use is a question that you need to ask yourself not once in your life, but constantly - with each new project. The choice of tool depends on the task, and if wp perfectly solves this particular task, why pay more?
Now I have a question about creating a site for my needs, I can easily do it on a node, but I will have to cut both the front and back, and also the layout, the front is not a question, but making up the admin panel or sawing on the same react is a lot of time . There is also discrimination on hosting - php only, if not VPS, and again I think, is it worth taking a node? So I'm leaning towards wp.
All my projects that I have done on wordpress have 90+ ratings in lighthouse, and it's all about the approach. So, if you don't like wordpress, you just don't know how to cook it.

You can use whatever is more convenient for you based on your programming knowledge.
If you want to try something different, then you can consider the same October, of course, but because I use MODX Revolution, I suggest taking a look at it . Because many customers after WP breathed a sigh of relief, because. work more conveniently and more and more clearly and conveniently and logically. And some improvements take minutes, maybe. html and php code is separated.
MODX has some off-the-shelf solutions to varying degrees. this engine is closer to the framework, which allows you to expand the functionality in any direction without pain.
There are disadvantages - you can't take and switch the site template to MODX in one click, as in WP. But on the other hand, you can quickly integrate ANY template into it, for this you need minimal knowledge of HTML, and in the hands of a small dock for MODX tags (if you don’t know it).
Good luck!
