Should I use Angular Material + Material Design Lite?

This is my first time using Angular Material, so this might be a stupid question.
Do they use Material Design Lite in addition to Angular Material to develop responsive websites for desktop and mobile devices? The fact is that I still do not understand if there is a normal grid in Angular Material? Or is the same Bootstrap or Material Design Lite added to it?
In Angular Material, I myself need to take into account the screen dimensions, that is, if the screen is as wide as a mobile device, then hide some block or if it is larger, then show it?
I can't figure out how grid works in Angular Material...
I read the doc on grid in Angular Material, but I do not understand how to make it so that when the screen is reduced, for example, the blocks do not decrease, as in the example, but become one under the other?
