Should I buy macbook m1 for web development?

Should I buy macbook m1 for web development? I am engaged in layout and frontend development everywhere. I have an understanding of what is worth, and for my purposes webstorm + figma + browser is suitable. But is 8gb of RAM enough? It is this question that confuses me, because I only have money for the most basic configuration with 8gb of RAM.
I also saw somewhere that if there is not enough RAM, the computer uses ssd and can kill it by frequently overwriting data. Myth or reality?

Vlad Poezzhaev ,
I would also buy 8GB air on m1. Judging by the tests, 8 GB works fine there. I am ready to switch to M1 in general. But for myself I would buy 16 GB to be safe.
As for the software - not all the software is there yet, but it's only a matter of time. Yes, and some software can still be replaced by other programs.
Note for yourself that 16GB of RAM is + 20 thousand rubles. Spread this amount over 5-6 years that you will use this laptop, and the price will be no more than a mug of coffee.
Now I am in the following situation:
1) Macbook 15 which I had for 6 years is sold.
2) I'm sitting on my wife's macbook 13 2017 with 8 GB of RAM. I suffer but ok.
3) Macbook 13 pro m1 is out, but I like a bigger diagonal.
4) Macbook 16 pro m1x will be released in June.
And now I’m thinking, buy my wife an air m1 with 8 GB of RAM to replace her old poppy, and I myself will wait for 16pro m1x,
Or don’t suffer garbage and buy a pro m1 16gb and work. But the diagonal, to be honest, strongly decides.

It seems to me that releasing a computer with 8 gigabytes of soldered (non-expandable) RAM in 2020 is an outright mockery of users. I had a sad experience of front-end development on a PC with 8 GB of memory, I would not even wish this on my enemy. It is clear that macOS ≠ Windows, and the system itself may have different requirements for hardware, but when one browser tab with open devtools can gobble up a couple of gigabytes of memory, and Figma wants to gobble up at least the same amount in the next one - in general, I don’t care what it is you have OS.
When there is not enough RAM, the computer (at least on Windows) actively uses the swap, which really lies on the SSD. But more likely it will kill you with its unresponsiveness than this SSD.

See if the apps you need are working here.
Killing an SSD (which is no longer quite an SSD there) is problematic unless you write a million times a second, but MacOS is no fool.
But the most important question is, why do you need a MacBook if you don’t have money for it. A computer on Windows sufficient for web development probably costs half as much.

When I typeset in small projects, fast and lightweight, then 8GB of RAM is enough.
If a heavy, highly loaded project, where there are a lot of pages, large bundles at the input, etc., then all the memory is instantly consumed, you have to climb onto a large desktop.
