If you want, then you can. This will be the so-called fake-raid. The performance will be similar to softoreid.
If you want chips, then you need a normal controller with write back and a battery.
I do not advise you to do such raids. Better than software. If on separate raid controllers, then the second must be in stock. Something will burn and then look for the same iron to restore work. Soft raid is not tied to hardware and is more flexible.
