Server from an old computer. Is it worth it in 2019?
Good day! Created my first application based on the MFRN stack (MongoDB + Fastify + ReactJS + NodeJS). Now there is a problem with the placement of the project. I’ll note right away that I’m a student and I feel sorry for the money to pay for the server.
Before that, I uploaded projects only with relational databases and made on the basis of different CMS. For them, I had a virtual hosting (hereinafter VX). And I, of course, will not launch this project on VX. Therefore, instead of renting a server, I got the idea to make it from my old computer.
[QUESTION] How expedient is it to use a self-made server and is it even worth doing this?
In addition. Components of an old PC:
- Asus p7h55-m s1156 mother
- Intel Core i3 530 processor
- Opera 2GB (if necessary, I'll buy a used one)
- without video (if necessary, I will also buy)
- two HDDs for 100GB and 500GB

If there is a desire to mess around with hardware, Linux, a network, then it is definitely worth going through the stage of a self-assembly server. In any case, it will be a useful experience. If there is no craving for this, it is easier to complete a small freelance project and use this money to pay VPS for half a year.
